I have been writing since I was ten years old.
Now I am twenty-four. I graduated with a BA in English, concentration Writing. I am the Marketing Coordinator at a great resort & spa. I just self-published my own novel entitled BLOOD. It is part of the Mordia: Search for the Lost trilogy. I am working on the second book of the trilogy, as well as a separate horror novel called To Court Death.
I still have a hard time calling myself an author.
I tried to think about why that is. I have written consistently for the past fourteen years. My work has been read by many people and the first chapter of BLOOD was even published in The College Journal. So why can't I proclaim I am an author?
Mainly I feel like I'm being pompous. I don't want people to feel like I'm saying "Oh yes, I am an author. I have a novel published. Mmm, yes, quite..." (It's better if you read this in the voice of an old man from England who is wearing a top hat and a monocle)
Anytime people ask, I always default to "I write" or "I'm a writer". Even with my fourteen year experience, writer sounds safer than author. Author, to me, is a prestigious title. Something reserved for award winning and critically acclaimed novelists who have way more experience and prestige than I do.
Maybe one day I will be considered an author. But to me, it's not today.
Today, I am just a writer. A recently, self-published writer who is creating a blog to focus on her work and sharing updates and thoughts for those who are interested. If anyone is interested. If you are great, if you're not, I respect that.
BLOOD has been released and a few copies have sold so far. Not as many as I was hoping, but I am being patient. Success doesn't just happen over night, despite what Hollywood would have you think. To those of you who have read BLOOD and liked it, I am working on book two. Book two will be titled SILVER and I am hoping to release it within the next two years.
I also have another novel, separate from the Mordia trilogy. It is called To Court Death and it is different from anything else I've ever written. I'm excited to work on it and share it with all of you.
The purpose of this blog is to have one space to share my thoughts. I am hoping to post regularly and I hope you all keep coming back to read.
