Dreams Can Be Great Stories
I have a list of topics I want to write about, but this particular topic jumped ahead of the line.
Recently, I had a crazy, weird, epic dream. It's too long to describe, and would be very confusing if you don't know me personally. But, it was intense. When I woke up, I kept thinking about it so I wouldn't forget the details of the dream. As soon as I had a chance I wrote down everything I remembered from the dream.
One of my friends suggested I use it for a future story.
This has actually happened to me two nights in a row now. Both dreams have been written and filed away (see previous blog post about saving everything you write).

Sometimes, even though the dream may be crazy and strange, they can be a good starting point for writing. Even if you don't want any one to read it.
As a writing exercise, think about a dream you've had and turn it into a story. No matter how strange it may be. To those of you who don't dream, or don't dream often, sorry! Maybe try writing a story based on someone else's dream.
I find it's great therapy for me. When I write down what I dreamt about, it makes me try to work out why I dreamt about it. What does it mean? Does it even mean anything? Or is my mind just like, "Heeeeyyy, you wanna write about something? WRITE THIS!" I don't know, but I'm happy to go along with it.
They say dreams are a way for your subconscious mind to work through your issues. I don't think that's what all dreams are for. I believe some are just based on things you've come in contact with throughout the previous day. If you have an overactive imagination, they can be down right scary! I've noticed that when I am at my most creative is when I have the most vivid and bizarre dreams. Since I've started this blog, I've been writing almost everyday and it seems my imagination doesn't want to stop.
So definitely write down your dreams if you can. Who knows? The dream you had last night might be the story you've been looking for!
